EMPOWERING YOUNG WOMEN THROUGH WILDERNESS ADVENTURE
Over the summer of 2017, BK2AK embarked on its inaugural Girls’ Trip! Six daring young women from Brooklyn encountered the Alaskan wilderness on a two-week expedition. This trip included the technology-free experiences of glacier climbing, backpacking, and whitewater rafting. It was a beautiful, life-changing success for everyone involved.
Since that inaugural year, we have launched six Girls’ Trips, bringing 45 girls on a trip of a lifetime. In 2021, we expanded our mission to include a leadership program that brings back alumni as mentor-leaders. This program allows girls to develop leadership qualities while also sharing their lived experience and strength with new participants.
With your support, we know we can continue to change girls’ lives by exposing them to the power of the Alaskan wilderness and helping them discover their inner strengths. Many BK2AK girls have gone on to college, using their Alaskan experience as the topic for their college essay. This trip is a game changer. Please help us empower these Brooklyn girls!
“BK2AK has done so much for me… it grew my character… I am able to do things I never thought I could do. I hope this program is able to show more young people of color how they can get through anything that they put their minds to.”
