THE Leadership team

With a decade of experience providing recreational and excursive experiences in the Alaskan wilderness for youth
from New York City, “Brooklyn To Alaska” has now launched The BK2AK leadership program.
The program is training ‘graduates’ from previous years, to become outdoor guides; leading future Brooklyn to Alaska participants, as well as private clients, on river rafting trips, overnight backpacking, ice climbing, and glacier hikes.

leadership log: DAY 01 Whitewater Rafting 101

NOC or Bust!

Our BK to AK leaders started out their week at NOC (Nantahala Outdoor Center) with super-instructor Jonny. He led our group along with about 20 others with lots of time in the water. While it was cold in Bryson City, NC (about 35-40 degrees), our guys toughed it out all week and got through a rigorous raft-guide training that involved water drills, rope tying, and much more.

LIFEVESTS MAnDATORY

As we continue to #FollowTheLeaders we find our guys in the Nantahala river doing a series of water drills to get them ready for any and all emergency scenarios. The water was indeed frigid but with the instructions of coaches Jonny and Mickey, the BK to AK team worked their way through the exercises and dried off in time for dinner.

When we all raft

On day 3 the leaders took to the whitewater and made their way down the Nantahala River. They showed us how it’s done and they made it look easy.

leadership log: DAY 04
sharing is caring

grillin’ ain’t easy

After a long day on the water, every #BK2AK leader must eat. Omare threw some burgers and dogs on the grill for everyone and Zach added on with some french fries. After everyone ate, we even had enough to share with our fellow rafters. #noc #outdoorlife #welit

leadership log: DAY 05
hard word pays off

teamwork

On their last day, the leaders did about 18 trips on the river. It was hard work and they handled it like professionals. #focus

#FollowTheLeaders Our Leaders had a wonderful experience at @nantahalaoutdoorcenter and met a ton of new friends. Now it’s time to take all of their skills and knowledge back to Alaska. Let’s GO LEADERS!
